SPRINT PNS for shoulder pain
Burt continues to be pain free in both shoulders
Burt Kanterman was born, raised and lives in Brooklyn, New York. He is 83 years old and is no stranger to surgery. In fact, he’s had multiple surgeries in his life—surgeries on his hands and thumb, a knee replacement, and a few years back, he had surgery on his right shoulder.
While his shoulder surgery was successful, Burt was experiencing severe chronic shoulder pain after his surgery that varied between a 6 and 10 (on a scale of 0-10, 10 being the most severe pain). He took pain medications but the pain continued.
Burt sought care from an interventional pain management physician, Dr. David Rosenblum of Anesthesia Associates of Boro Park. Dr. Rosenblum recommended the SPRINT® extensa® Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) system and its two tiny MicroLead™ lead wires were implanted in December of 2018.
Within a few days of starting SPRINT therapy for his right shoulder, Burt experienced a reduction in pain and felt like he was getting stronger. He notes the device was easy to use, and he was able to adjust the stimulation with the remote and recharge the battery on his own.
During the 60-day treatment and since having the leads removed in February 2019, Burt’s right shoulder has been pain-free.
Burt has more recently developed pain in his left shoulder. His orthopedic physician said the only option he could offer was surgery, so Burt went back to see Dr. Rosenblum who prescribed the SPRINT system for his left shoulder pain. Immediately after Burt started SPRINT therapy for his left shoulder in June of 2019, the pain in his left shoulder disappeared. Therapy is now complete, and Burt continues to be pain free in both shoulders. He is grateful he was able to avoid surgery.
The SPRINT PNS System is indicated for up to 60 days for: (i) Symptomatic relief of chronic, intractable pain, post-surgical and post-traumatic acute pain; (ii) Symptomatic relief of post-traumatic pain; and (iii) Symptomatic relief of post-operative pain.
